Welcome to my website.
Simon Pilling, East Asian Art & Interiors, offers clients a tailored and discreet service in the acquisition and display of fine East Asian Art. Specialising in Japanese lacquer from the seventeenth to 21st centuries, and fine illustrated woodblock printed books, my work builds on a lifelong interest in the traditional fine and decorative arts of Japan, coupled to a passion for the countrys artistic culture and way of life. For me the story behind each work of art its provenance, its use, its cultural significance is as important as the intrinsic beauty and craftsmanship of the piece itself.
Clients interests may range from building a private collection, to acquiring a specific piece for display that will express personal artistic ideals. As a practising architect for over 30 years, I have great respect for the Japanese approach to interior design and display, and am always pleased to work with a client to discover how the setting of an artwork in a specific location can both transform the quality of space and enhance the pleasure to be gained from any piece.
My goal is to build long-term trusting relationships with discriminating clients in the acquisition or disposal of fine East Asian Art. Through regular travel in Japan I have developed a wide network of connections with Japanese artists and dealers from whom I am able to source fine pieces. My ongoing research and scholarship, building on an MA in East Asian Art gained at Sothebys, ensures that clients may confidently rely on a professional service and advice based on in-depth expertise.
Please contact me if you would like to know more, or feel that I could help find the special piece that eludes you, refine your existing collection, or assist you with a new project. |
